Alexander Hamilton (1712 - 1756), a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, moved to Maryland in 1739. He practiced medicite and owned an apothecary in Annapolis and was also known as a musician, poet, journalist, and satirst, the founder of the Tuesday Club in Anapolis (1745). On May 30, 1744, Hamilton and his black servant Dromo embarked on a tour of northern colonies. William Keeney Bixby was born in Adrian, Michigan, in 1857. His career in the railroad industry began with a job as baggageman and concluded with his position as president and chairman of the board of the American Car and Foundry Co. He retired from that company in 1905 at the age of 48. After retirement he pursued his interests in traveling and in collecting first editions, original manuscripts, and works of art.
